Yay Abe lit up the hallowed halls of Arthur Ashe Stadium during the US Open. His mural for its 2024 Fan Experience Wall featured a digital black outline depicting quintessential tennis moments, down to the last headband and taco (it’s NYC, not Wimbledon strawberries-and-cream). Fans could then leave their own mark on the tournament, using digital markers to colour in the blanks.
“The main focus was to create a piece that depicts the joy and excitement of the US Open,” says TDF’s Yay. “I loved the idea of creating an intricate mural that at first glance seems like a bunch of black-line work but, when looking closer at the pattern, the work slowly reveals a wide range of scenarios.”
"It’s an artwork that not only celebrates tennis, but also the beautiful fans that bring the energy and passion to the sport", adds Yay.
