This Valentine’s Day adidas found its perfect match in TDF’s Made by Nelson. Combining sweet sentiments, charming characters and hearts abound, this collaboration birthed a collection that Cupid would be proud of.
In celebration of all things love, adidas wanted to create a limited edition clothing and accessory line, touching on themes of creativity and self-expression. For Nelson, it felt like a natural fit. “A lot of my work is already synonymous with self-care affirmations and positive imagery, so it was exciting to develop these characters filled with love.”
adidas made the first move, reaching out with an open brief simply featuring its iconic Trefoil – and Nelson took the opportunity to get creative. “I wanted the Trefoil to be the centrepiece but I also wanted it to feel natural in my world – something that felt fun, effortless, and instantly recognisable.”
The resulting creative intro’d us to a heart-shaped character holding a Trefoil chocolate, and the same shmoozer cycling away leaving behind a Trefoil dust trail. Every detail tied back to the brand, but on his terms.
“Love Lifts Us Up” is the perfect V-day affirmation to sit alongside Nelson’s creation. Despite clothing being a new avenue for the artist, the process was full of delights: “Receiving that first box of samples was such an amazing thing, it was huge! I remember opening the box and spreading it across my bedroom floor in disbelief of how cool and unique this project was. It was such a special moment.”
This collection was all about wearing your heart (and Trefoil) on your sleeve.
